As the two super candidates begin to eye the white house signs of business as usual are already starting to appear. The excitement of the nominations is behind us and the old games which have defined US elections as long as I can remember have begun again.
The latest round of attacks on BO coming after remarks by James Woolsey about his naive approach towards terrorism. It’s all talking points, BO’s response will be about as worthwhile. Around and around they will go until we get bored and lose interest.
One thing I have never heard from a politician is a plan, just talking points.
BO gives a shout out to the Vets our country used as lab rats quoted by ABC news as saying "It is outrageous and unacceptable that our government would irresponsibly endanger veterans who have already sacrificed so much for our country," as if this kind of abuse of our vets is a new thing. It’s just one of those things we keep choosing to ignore.
I’ve always had a soft spot for McCain to be honest and I think if he had gotten the nomination instead of our present NBK we might be in a lot better shape and at least one less war. But my boy sold out long ago and he’s so old guard now it’s just sad.
Barrak’s tone is slowly changing or maybe it’s starting to wear thin. He’s starting to sound like just another rich Christian on a soap box. The only substantive differences I can see in his favor besides a good publicists and speech writer are that he’s not a bush and he’s black.
We skate over this issue of race because no one wants to get slap with one of the nasty labels that fly around it at light speed, but it’s still a big issue in this country. Electing a black president may be painful but it will also help us put this internal problem to rest.
Facing the fact that a lot of blacks and whites in this country hate each other in such an institutional way is like saying I’m an alcoholic, admitting there is a problem. On the one hand the old guard has to just suck it up. On the other hand if BO is calling the shot that kind of takes an excuse out of play.
I stole the last bit from a comic I saw at the Improv, sorry guy you cracked me up but I forgot your name. But it’s a good point. Since we’re on the subject of comedy it will be interesting to see these guys attack each other with all they have, while they dance around this issue.
The title to this piece is a quote from an infamous Mexican politician named Fidel Velázquez. Going around in circles is kind of like standing still, if we spend all our time dodging bullets and trying to get off another shot, is it possible to ever make any progress?
By-way of an answer I’ll leave you with a quote from another famous politician.
"That depends on what your definition of 'is' is," said by Bill Clinton.
